How to convert Braille to text

Translate a Unicode Braille message in three straightforward steps.

01

Paste Unicode Braille

Enter or paste Braille pattern characters while keeping the original spaces and line breaks between words.

02

Decode the cells

Select Decode Braille. The converter interprets alphabet cells, number signs, capital signs, and punctuation.

03

Export readable text

Review the decoded message, copy it to your clipboard, or download it as a clean UTF-8 text file.

Professional Grade 1 Braille decoding

The decoder respects indicators and formatting instead of performing a simple symbol-for-symbol replacement.

Alphabet support

Translate standard English Braille letters from A through Z with original word spacing.

Capital indicators

A single capital sign uppercases the next letter, while a double sign begins a capitalized sequence.

Number mode

The number indicator converts the following A–J cells into digits 1–0 until number mode ends.

Local conversion

Your Braille remains inside the browser and is never sent to a conversion server.

Understanding Unicode Braille input

Unicode Braille uses visible pattern characters such as , , and . These are different from ordinary periods arranged to look like raised dots. Paste actual Braille characters for accurate decoding.

Capital and number indicators

The capital sign changes the case of a following letter. The number sign switches A–J cells to digits, so ⠼⠁⠃⠉ becomes 123.

Grade 1 versus contracted Braille

This tool focuses on uncontracted Grade 1 English Braille. Grade 2 contractions can depend on context and may require a dedicated contracted-Braille translator.

Braille to Text Converter FAQs

Important details about Unicode cells, numbers, capitals, contractions, and privacy.

What type of Braille does this converter support?

It supports standard uncontracted Grade 1 English Unicode Braille, including letters, numbers, capital indicators, and common punctuation.

Does it decode Grade 2 Braille contractions?

The tool may decode individual cells, but it does not expand context-dependent Grade 2 contractions. Use Grade 1 input for dependable results.

How are capital letters represented?

The Braille capital indicator before a letter makes that letter uppercase. Two capital indicators can begin a capitalized sequence.

How does the converter recognize numbers?

After the number sign, Braille letters A through J are interpreted as digits 1 through 0 until a space or nonnumeric pattern ends number mode.

Why do I see a replacement marker?

The marker shows that the input contains a Braille cell not covered by the supported Grade 1 English mapping.

Can the tool read an image of Braille?

No. It accepts selectable Unicode Braille text, not photos, scanned pages, or embossed Braille documents.

Is my Braille text uploaded?

No. Decoding, copying, and text-file creation all happen locally in your browser.

Can I download the converted text?

Yes. After decoding, use Download .txt to save the readable result as a UTF-8 text file.
