TGA, also known as TARGA, is a raster image format commonly used for video game textures, 3D renders, animation, visual effects and professional graphics. TGA images may be uncompressed or use run-length encoding and can contain alpha transparency.
Many browsers, websites, content management systems and mobile applications do not display TGA files. JPG offers much broader compatibility and can provide significantly smaller files for photographs, renders and images without a need for transparency.
JPG uses lossy compression. Higher quality values preserve more fine detail, while lower values can reduce file size more aggressively. A setting between 80 and 92 usually provides a practical balance for many images.
JPG cannot store an alpha channel. This converter composites the TGA over your selected background color before writing the JPG output. White is the default background, but another color may be selected before conversion.
